On demand: MADSCAN®: Revolutionizing Plastic Composition Analysis for High-Quality Recycled Polymers

English
This webinar will be available to you on demand until the end of June 2025.

Recycling quality is critically impacted by the challenges of mixing different polymer types effectively. More and more standards like DIN SPEC 91446 include FTIR and DSC for identification of compositions. However, these current optical methods, such as Near Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, and thermal techniques like Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), struggle to address the complexities of black plastics, multi-layered structures, and larger sample sizes needed for inhomogeneous recycled materials.

MADSCAN® technology offers a breakthrough solution by accurately determining polymer fractions in representative samples of recycled plastics. It precisely maps polymer types, even in complex blends like LDPE/LLDPE. Unlike existing thermal analysis methods, MADSCAN® leverages a sensor array detector setup, overcoming limitations of small samples in the milligram range. While analyzing information like a DSC thermogram, the MADSCAN technology measures and analyzes further characteristics that make this technology even more powerful. Combined with automated machine learning (ML) based peak fitting, MADSCAN® provides highly reliable analysis with an accuracy margin of up to one percent by weight (1 wt.%).

This presentation will showcase how MADSCAN® technology addresses the challenges faced by current recycling analysis techniques, paving the way for improved recyclate quality. Overall, MADSCAN® is an essential tool for scaling the quality analysis of recycled polymers to meet industry demands.
