Rheology of Battery Slurries

Using modern rheological methods, it is possible to measure the flow properties of battery slurries under processing conditions. For this purpose, we use KINEXUS Rotational Rheometer and ROSAND Capillary Rheometer. Watch our latest webinar and learn more.

For the development, the manufacturing and the use of the great variety of possible batteries, knowledge of the thermal and rheological properties, safety assessment and life cycle determination all play decisive roles. The primary objectives of current battery design strategy include a long service life, a multitude of complete charging and discharging cycles, and a continuous release of the electrical energy stored. Critical impacts here are the stability of the slurry, the flow properties during coating and the levelling and structural recovery after coating.

Using modern rheological methods, it is possible to measure the flow properties of battery slurries under processing conditions. For this purpose, we use KINEXUS Rotational Rheometer and ROSAND Capillary Rheometer.

In our latest webinar, we will answer questions including:

  • How battery slurries flow during the coating process and how we can reproduce those conditions in our rheometers
  • How to calculate shear rates for typical processes like as blade coating, slot die coating and spray coating
  • How to use both the Capillary Rheometer and the Rotational Rheometer to cover a wide shear rate range
  • How to determine whether the slurry is stable before coating, and how it levels after processing when it is on the electrode
  • The impact of particle shape on shear viscosity function
  • How to use the NETZSCH Grinding & Dispersing planetary mixer to produce high-quality battery slurries
