Fight Against Corona: Antiviral Powder Coatings For Tweezers

The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance of antimicrobial surfaces in eliminating viruses and bacteria as early as possible, thus interrupting transmission paths. To protect customers and employees, NETZSCH now offers tweezers with antimicrobial coating.

As part of a development collaboration, NETZSCH is working with its partner, the European Centre for Dispersion Technologies (EZD), to contain Covid-19. The aim of the new development is an antimicrobial coating that can be applied to a great variety of different surfaces to eliminate viruses and bacteria. NETZSCH is now using tweezers with an anti-Covid coating for sample preparation, thus improving safety in crucible handling ‒ for both the operator and the crucible.

The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance of antimicrobial surfaces in eliminating viruses and bacteria as early as possible, thus interrupting transmission paths. The European Center for Dispersion Technologies (EZD) in Selb has developed a novel powder coating with silver nanoparticles to counteract exactly this transmission. With an effectiveness of over 99%, the transmission of Corona viruses and bacteria is reduced on this coating surface.

To protect our customers and employees, the above-described tweezers with antimicrobial coating will now be offered to our customers. The tweezers are made of metal and will soon be automatically shipped with all 200-series DSCand TGAinstruments, as well as all STA instrument orders.

The associated crucible box is ideally suited for the transport and storage of samples during preparation ‒ the closable box prevents the crucibles and samples from falling or becoming contaminated.
The crucible box can also be used as a storage box, e.g., for retained samples or calibration samples. The box is particularly useful for customers who do not have an automatic sample changer (ASC).
