Multiple Stress Creep Recovery (MSCR)

The AASHTO T350 test is used in conjunction with specification AASHTO M 332, to determine the performance grade (Performance-Graded (PG) BinderA performance-based asphalt grading system intended to minimize the potential for rutting, fatigue cracking and thermal cracking as initially defined by Superpave under AASHTO M-320 and M-332 including later equivalents by ASTM, EN, DIN, etc.PG) of an asphalt binder.

The method is designed to identify the presence of elastic response in an asphalt binder.  Non-recoverable CreepCreep describes a time and temperature dependent plastic deformation under a constant force. When a constant force is applied to a rubber compound, the initial deformation obtained due to the application of the force is not fixed. The deformation will increase with time.creep compliance (Jnr) has been shown to be an indicator of the resistance of an asphalt binder to permanent deformation under repeated load (rutting). This test is typically performed immediately after AASHTO T 315 and can be performed on the same RTFO-conditioned sample.

ASTM D7405 and EN 16659 are examples of other standard bodies’ version of MSCR which are equivalent or based on AASHTO T350.
