STA F3 Jupiter® with SKIMMER Furnace

Special, integrated coupling system for high performance gas analysis

The SKIMMER furnace enables a direct coupling with a quadrupole mass spectrometer (QMS), one of the most sensitive system for evolved gas analysis.

The coupling takes place directly in the furnace of the STA 449 F3 Jupiter®, which is especially developed for the usage with the SKIMMER coupling. The first pressure reduction stage is arranged directly above the sample container. The orifice is so designed that it works as divergent nozzle. The SKIMMER is the second pressure reduction stage and arranged in the range of the forming compression area behind the nozzle.

The distance between the sample and the high-vacuum component is only ca. 12 mm. The system design allows the gas transfer to occur at nearly the same temperature as the sample, therefore circumventing any condensation issues. The vertical gas flow in the sample chamber and the minimal distance between the sample and SKIMMER orifice ensures a reliable transfer of the evolving gases. This results in short retention times and a high sensitivity.

The STA 449 Jupiter® series is the ultimate system for versatility carrying out TGA, simultaneous TGA-DSC or simultaneous TGA-DTA measurements. The easily user-exchangeable sample carriers result in a very powerful and versatile STA system flexible enough to handle the broadest application range.

„NETZSCH thermal analysis instruments support the synthesis and crystal growing at the institute. In particular, the Skimmer coupling makes it possible to identify easily condensable gases such as arsenic, tellurium or various metal vapors, even at high temperatures.“
