Material Science in Additive Manufacturing: Our New Video Series!

Additive Manufacturing (AM) or 3D printing has become a constant in our product design and development cycles and is debuting in more and more new products. At NETZSCH Analyzing & Testing, we see more and more customers in the field of Additive Manufacturing using our equipment to select materials and optimize their processes. That is why we have been busy preparing this special video series and are excited to finally launch “Material Science in Additive Manufacturing”.

Additive Manufacturing (AM) or 3D printing has matured over the last decades and has become a constant in our product design and development cycles and is debuting in more and more new products. We have seen huge improvements in capabilities and output. We have a much wider range of materials and we can produce much stronger, more accurate components in shorter amounts of time. These technologies are used where complex geometries with little or no additional costs compared with traditional methods are needed. The possibility to combine functionalities and increase complexity, often also result in weight reductions that are very valuable in many industries.

While the general public thinks of 3D printing as one single process, the industry is very well aware of the variety and the trade-offs in regards to mechanical performance, durability and surface finish to name just a few. There is no perfect, “one-process-fits-all” solution.

What can you expect?

Material Science in Additive Manufacturing consists of two sections that build on each other to bring the subject within reach of everyone ‒ either just interested or already working in the field of additive manufacturing.

In the first section, the focus is on understanding the different technologies, process principles, materials, benefits and advantages, including where the different technologies and processes are applied in industry today.

In the advanced section, we will dive deeper and look at the underlying material science as well as the methods suitable to analyze the materials and to optimize processes.

In addition, we have interviewed experts from various industries to share details about their work and how material analyses help them create better products and results.

Description

Who should watch?

Everyone is invited to join our additive manufacturing community! Whether you are just starting out with AM and are interested in learning about the different technologies or you are an advanced user and would like to understand more of the material science behind the processes, everyone will take away new knowledge from our video series.

The goal of the series is to enable the viewers to

  • Understand the basic process principles
  • Interpret interactions of process and material
  • Select suitable thermoanalytical and rheological analysis methods

Building a community

This video series is not a one-way road! Please leave your questions in the YouTube commentary. We will answer your questions and also use them to fill our pool of questions from which we will choose several of the most asked and interesting to answer in our live events throughout 2021. Furthermore, we encourage you to have discussions in the comment section to also learn from and challenge your peers.

When does it start?

Starting November 11, 2020, we will share videos on the basics of Additive Manufacturing. Every week, a new technology will be in the spotlight. After our holiday break, we will ring in the New Year with three more weeks of additive manufacturing technologies. After that, we will answer your questions and continue with the advanced insights into material science.

Keep your eyes peeled for the first videos in our new series Material Science in Additive Manufacturing!
