The New NETZSCH STA 509 Jupiter® Series and its Highlights

Last week, we introduced our new NETZSCH STA Jupiter® Series and its 3 models Classic, Select and Supreme. This new line of instruments is designed to meet the different analytical needs of quality control and materials development laboratories. Read in our latest article about further new features and software solutions for advanced applications.

More New Features for Advanced Applications

An Automatic Sample Changer (ASC) is always a useful accessory to improve the reliability of comparative studies, by minimizing the risk of human error in sample handling, and, of course, to optimize sample throughput with overnight operations.

The STA 20-sample-positions ASC is now extended with an optional piercing device to open aluminium crucible lids shortly before the measurement starts. This new tool is relevant to handle, for instance, moisture-sensitive materials, like those used in batteries or pharmaceutical applications.

When measuring in a humid atmosphere with the vapor or copper furnace, the new gas switch valve system provides the capability of seamlessly switching between humid and dry atmospheres during a measurement. This flexibility is crucial for experiments requiring precise control over environmental conditions, ensuring accurate and reliable data.

For the ever-challenging materials testing under a hydrogen atmosphere, the NETZSCH STA 509 Jupiter® can be extended with the newly introduced H₂Secure system: a complete solution for experiments in variable hydrogen environments, while maintaining the highest possible safety standards.

This innovative concept allows for research in pure hydrogen atmospheres as well as controlled dilution of hydrogen in inert carrier gases (i.e., nitrogen or argon).

Thanks to the above-mentioned STA flexible concept, you can decide to dedicate one furnace to the H₂Secure operation, thus keeping the second one for other routine tasks.

Fast Measurement Results with the Proteus® 9 Software

The STA Series is operated by the latest version of the NETZSCH Proteus® 9 software, featuring enhancements like “Customized Menu” and “Workspaces”. These features allow to tailor the analysis environment to your preferences, using the full range of available functions.

Additionally, the Proteus® Search Engine enables quick and efficient searching, filtering, and sorting of measurement and analysis files within seconds.

The new STA 509 benefits from our state-of-the-art advance routines, AutoEvaluation and Identify.

AutoEvaluation is a unique self-operating function for TGA and DSC analyses. It automatically detects relevant mass changes, endo- or ExothermicA sample transition or a reaction is exothermic if heat is generated.exothermic effects, as well as other effects such as Glass Transition TemperatureThe glass transition is one of the most important properties of amorphous and semi-crystalline materials, e.g., inorganic glasses, amorphous metals, polymers, pharmaceuticals and food ingredients, etc., and describes the temperature region where the mechanical properties of the materials change from hard and brittle to more soft, deformable or rubbery.glass transitions. It also generates DTG (TGA first derivative) curves, and identifies peak, onset and midpoint temperatures without user input, thus offering time efficiency and objectivity.

In the field of thermal analysis, Identify stands out as the sole software capable of automatic curve recognition and material identification

It performs a true database comparison of the results displaying hit lists (similarity percentage values), as already known for other methods, such as FT-IR. Identify comes with a library of more than 1.300 entries from various application fields: polymers, organics, food, pharma, metals/alloys, ceramics and inorganics.

You can expand the database at any time, by testing your reference samples and saving your customized curve libraries.

A broad selection of crucible types of different materials completes the offer. Take a look into our Accessories Catalogue for DSC, TGA and STA to find out more!

A Story to Be Continued

“With great powers come great responsibilities”, and the STA 509 Jupiter® is without doubt one of the most powerful instruments in the NETZSCH portfolio.

With its high flexibility, advanced options, and the cutting-edge Proteus® 9 software, the new NETZSCH STA series is the ideal instrument for researchers requiring top-quality thermal characterization of polymers and composites, organics, ceramics, glass and construction materials, metals and alloys, pharmaceuticals, food samples, and applications in the environmental and nuclear fields.
